Notice the first two points are somewhat intuitive. They require a client to meet with the attorney, ask questions and discuss the case in order to get a feeling about the attorney.
For the last component – competency – much can be learned by checking out the attorney or law firm’s actual record and history. Best Lawyers in America
Published since 1983, The Best Lawyers in America list is considered the gold standard of reliability and integrity in lawyer ratings. Best Lawyers survey is conducted by Woodward/White, Inc., a third party attorney evaluation firm.
Inclusion in Best Lawyers is based entirely on peer-review. First an attorney must be nominated. Lawyers are not permitted to pay any fee to participate in or be included on the lists. Local lawyers are asked to answer the question, “If you could not handle a case yourself, to whom would you refer it?” Nominated attorneys are further reviewed through highly detailed peer-review surveys in which thousands of prominent attorneys privately evaluate their legal peers.
An attorney who makes the annual Best Lawyers list must maintain those votes in all following polls to remain on the list for each edition.
Orlando Magazine Best Lawyer
The annual Best Lawyers list discussed above provides the names of Orlando-area lawyers most endorsed and selected by their colleagues in the field. The attorney names are excerpted from The Best Lawyers in America list and published in Orlando Magazine.
Other indicators for lawyers being recognized statewide for being the best at what they do include Florida Legal Elite, and a listing of 10 out of 10 ("Superb") by Avvo.com.
